🐟 Commercial Pole Floats – Introduction
Commercial fisheries are a relatively new chapter in our angling history. It was only a couple of decades ago that I first witnessed their arrival — at Moorland Farm, Hartlebury, Worcestershire.
Owner John Talbot had the vision to stock his fishery with hard-fighting, fast-growing carp. Word spread quickly, and before long, anglers from all over the country were travelling to experience this exciting new style of fishing.
Soon after, other commercial venues emerged — including Makins Fishery, Mallory Park, and many more. These waters also saw the introduction of new species, such as the F1 carp, which further shaped the development of modern commercial match fishing.
🪶 The Rise of New Tactics
This new style of fishing demanded fresh thinking. Traditional methods evolved rapidly, and stronger pole fishing tactics soon followed — including:

Standard floats simply weren’t designed to cope with the punishing demands of heavy weights and powerful carp. Floats had to evolve — becoming tougher, more durable, and more responsive to the explosive runs typical of commercial fisheries.
